CAUTION: BEFORE STARTING TO ASSEMBLE THE TRANSMITTER END
CONNECTOR, USE COOLING AND LUBRICATION TO MINIMIZE THE
LIKELIHOOD OF UNSEATING ITS GAS BARRIER O-RING. Choose an
appopriate time of day or use refrigeration to keep the
connector temperature of 24°C (75°F) maximum at the time
of installation, and use a thin coating of the supplied silicone
grease (#12225) to lubricate the inner surface of the connector
outer conductor. The cooler temperature plus the lubrication
will allow the inner assembly to slide easily within the outer
conductor. 9. If necessary, remove the protective covering from the TX end of the cable section. Align the connector inner conductor assembly with the cable section inner conductor, taking care to support the connector during assembly. Seat the strain insulator against the flange of the conductor outer conductor. Thread the inner conductor assembly of the gas barrier connector onto the protruding stud. Turn the driver ring by hand until the contact surfaces are snug. CAUTION: TO PREVENT MISENGAGEMENT, THE INNER CONDUCTORS SHOULD BE ALIGNED WELL. The driver ring should turn freely during initial tightening. 10. Attach the spanner wrench handle (#221752) to the (TX) spanner wrench (#220344). Use this tool and the driver-ring torque wrench (#220047) to tighten the joint to a torque between 250 and 275 ft-lb. Hold the (TX) spanner wrench tool stationary and use the torque wrench to turn the driver ring. Tightening is easier if the spanner wrench handle is kept out of the way of the torque wrench arm. CAUTION: USE THESE WRENCHES ONLY. They are designed to preent damage to the inner conductor assembly and driver ring during tightening. |
11. This is a high contact pressure connection. After tightening,
brush completely around the connection (between the driver ring
and the inner conductors) to remove any small fillings that occur
from the wiping action of the contacting surfaces. Use a
horsehair brush or equivalent. 12. Check the installation of the O-rings in the connector outer conductor assembly and reinsert them into their corresponding grooves as required. If necessary, draw a small bead of adhesive (#10866-122) to hold the O-ring in its groove. 13. Apply a thin, approximately 1/64 inch (0.4 mm), continuous coating of Alumashield® (#203233-4) from the middle of the flange holes to the outer edge of the connector flange. CAUTION: THE MATING FLANGE SURFACES AND THE INSIDE OF THE CABLE SECTION AND CONNECTOR MUST BE CLEAN. Inspect these visually and remove any dirt, adhesive, or other foreign material before beginning the steps to join the outer conductors. 14. Slowly push the connector and the attached cable-section inner conductor back into the cable section until the connector flange is about 1 inch (25 mm) from the cable section flange. Insert all bolts from the SCL950 hardware kit (#209608) through both flanges, inserting the longer bolt with the cross-drilled shank into the bottom flange hole first to help alignment. Remove four of the bolts by first removing the two bolts on either side of the longer bolt. Then remove the twto bolts directly opposite (180° apart) to these bolts. |
