6. PERFORMANCE VERIFICATION Verification of performance tests for High Voltage and VSWR are required upon completion of system installation and/or repair of an existing line section. Prior to any testing, the line should be purged. 6.1 High-Voltage Test CAUTION: Great safety and care must be administrated when performing this test due to the high voltage levels. EQUIPMENT: Hipotronics Model 260 DV Installation Tester (or equivalent). MEASUREMENT: (1) Remove the end plate from the high voltage/pressure cap and install the cap on the antenna-end connector flange. With the integral stud facing outward, install a TX end pressure plate over the open end of the cap. Secure all bolts to obtain good electrical contact between the flanges. CAUTION: THE TX END PRESSURE PLATE MUST BE INSTALLED WITH THE STUD EXPOSED. (2) Connect the high-voltage lead from the source to the inner conductor of the transmitter end connector and connect the ground lead to the outer conductor. (3) Raise the voltage quickly from 0 to 32 kV, and then advance it gradually to 48 kV. REQUIREMENT: The transmission line shall withstand this voltage for two minutes without breakdown. NOTE: When the test is complete, turn the voltage to zero and discharge the test voltage at the supply. Then, remove the ground lead and contact the high-voltage lead on the inner conductor. |
6.2 VSWR Test EQUIPMENT: HP-8753A Network Analyzer and an HP-85046A S-Parameter Test Set (or equivalent). SETUP: The test is performed by terminating the antenna end of the transmission line with a precision 50-ohm load and attaching the test equipment to the transmitter end of the transmission line using applicable low VSWR adaptors at both interfaces. The adaptors must mate the 10" (254 mm) interface of the connector to the interface of the test equipment. MEASUREMENT: (1) Calibrate the equipment over the frequency range 3.9 MHz to 26.1 MHz. (2) Measure the VSWR of the adaptors to determine if they are applicable by connecting them back to back, using a "bullet" if required. Then, attach one end to the test equipment and attach a precision 50-ohm load to the other. The VSWR of the adaptors must be 1.006 maximum from 3.9 MHz to 26.1 MHz. (3) Terminate the antenna-end connector with a precision 50-ohm load using one of the adaptors and attach the transmitter end to the test equipment using the other adaptor. (4) Measure the VSWR over the frequency range 3.9 MHz to 26.1 MHz. REQUIREMENT: The measured VSWR should not exceed 1.05 except for frequency intervals at 12.6 MHz, ±0.1 MHz, and 25.2 MHz, ±0.2 MHz, where inherent VSWR peaks occur. |
