9. Remove the protective covering at the ANT end and pull the
inner conductor toward the antenna exposing at least 6 inches
(152 mm). Thread a strain insulator (#207567) onto the exposed
inner conductor, flat side outward. Position the strain insulator
against the flange to keep it out of the way. 10. Align the inner conductor with the clamped inner conductor of section 1. Engage the threaded stub of the repair section with the coupling stud and rotate the repair-section inner conductor to draw the connection together until it is snug. CAUTION: TO PREVENT MISENGAGEMENT, THE INNER CONDUCTORS SHOULD BE ALIGNED WELL. The conductor should turn freely during initial tightening. 11. Attach the transition piece assembly (#220702) to the inner conductor about 0.25 inch (6 mm) from the driver ring edge. CAUTION: DO NOT ATTACH THIS ASSEMBLY MORE THAN 0.5 INCH (12 MM) FROM THE DRIVER RING EDGE. Damage to the inner conductor can result. 12. Remove the spanner wrench attachment from the driver-ring torque wrench (#220047) and attach the torque wrench to the assembly. |
Hold the clamp stationary and use the torque wrench to turn the
inner conductor. Tighten the connection to a torque between
250 and 275 ft-lb. CAUTION: USE THESE TOOLS ONLY. They are designed to prevent damage to the inner conductor and driver ring during tightening. 13. This is a high-contact pressure connection. After tightening, brush completely around the connection to remove any small filings that occur from the wiping action of the contacting surfaces. Use a soft horsehair brush or equivalent. 14. Remove the screws holding the two half wrenches of the clamp. Push one of the half-wrench handles toward plate 1 and remove the opposite half wrench. Then, use a rubber mallet and tap against the remaining half wrench to pop its dowel pin out of the driver ring. After the half wrenches are removed, remove plate 1. WARNING: KEEP HANDS CLEAR OF THE INNER CONDUCTOR WHEN REMOVING THE CLAMP. 15. Return to the flange joint between sections 1 and 2 and remove the nuts from the four flange bolts. Slide the outer conductor of section 1 toward the repair section at least 4 inches (102 mm), holding the centering fixture in place. |
