2. Slit and Band Outer Conductor.
Slide the flare ring onto the outer conductor so
that it butts against the jacket and the smaller part
of the ring is at the cable end. Make approximately 8 to 10 slits in the outer conductor with miniature diagonal cutters to a depth of 1/32 inch (1 mm) and bend the tabs against the clamping nut as shown. Then lay a knife tip on the tabs and gently tap the knife with a mallet to flatten the tabs. Trim off any tabs that extend beyond the edge of the flare ring. Trim the foam flush with the flattened tabs. |
|
3. Mount Outer Body. Fully slide the outer body onto the flare ring. Thread the clamping nut onto the outer body and tighten the connection with wrenches. Hold the clamping nut and turn only the outer body. |
|
4. Position and Heat Shrink Tube. Slide the shrink tube to a point 13/16 inch (21 mm) beyond the cable end of the clamping nut. Apply heat around the tube to shrink it just enough for a tight seal--do not overheat the tube! Heating may be done with an electric heat gun, propane torch, or butane torch. |
